Blank Space

author's note:
Many times, in many ways, I've knocked on doors, any number of doors.
Then suddenly, a door opens--even without me knocking--and I don't know what to do.
BLANK SPACE
A door opens without warning-–
the dark space seems
to dare me
to go in...
I wouldn't worry so much
but I've only myself
for a guide--
having cast off all others
because they think
they know me.
Though I hesitate
because the depth
is unknown
I know I'll soon take that step
because the depth
is unknown.
Though I realize it's a dream
I'm nervous because I can't imagine
what I'll find...but because I'm nervous
I try to imagine what I'll find
even though I know
I can't possibly imagine.
Shamed at such weak foolishness
I bolster my pride by acting bold.
