This Nemesis Earth

author's note:

I may not feel at home in this world...

...but at least I feel "housed".

THIS NEMESIS EARTH

This world--even in its great open spaces--
so often seems so physically confining--

too much stands in my way--
too many haystacks
and computers--

too many deserts
and rivers--

too many orbiting bodies
--including my own--

so many mountains--
too many
grains of sand.

Though I know
all those molecules
make music

I'm anxious to arrive
on the other side
of such things--
I want so much to reach
a quiet I'm told resides
beyond the far horizon.

Yet I've always doubted
I could find the peace I seek...
trying to ease my worry
in the past, I pushed
and pushed

until I finally realized
why progress must be slow--
I have no choice
but to take my time.

So now, as I crawl
over or through
the relentless obstacles
I pause long enough
to feel
how I truly love
the music of
this nemesis Earth.
